What’s next after JAMB (UTME)?

What are you expected to do next after JAMB? It is no longer a new thing that people fail or pass an examination, especially in JAMB. Those that passed any examinations can tell that they were prepared and of course, had an iota of luck in the examination. You might want to ask how is it luck that one passes an examination. My response to that is simple, what if all you read never came out in the examination? If you failed, there s every tendency that you did not prepare at all or you did not prepare enough or luck was never on your side. What if you are on the latter side of the divide, what are you to do? It is common that candidates who did not do well are likely to be looking for JAMB upgrade. I have prepared a post on everything you need to know about JAMB upgrade here. That will lead to my next question.
Is JAMB Upgrading of Result Real?
No! There is nothing like JAMB upgrading. I can tell you for sure that it is just a way of collecting your hard-earned money from you in a rather unscrupulous way. You would have received several messages on different social media and WhatsApp groups on how to upgrade your JAMB score. The people behind it are a group of liars who want to milk on the fact that students will fail and possibly look for an alternative way of getting good grades. The same is applicable to JAMB runz (giving you the answers to your examination before the examination). Those are just mere lies. You can never get anything like that. JAMB, in the past, had foreseen that things like this will want to happen, so, they employed the best brains to be in charge of the ICT. The officials of the body are well-paid as well. So, you are likely never going to have any amount of money to persuade any legitimate JAMB official to reveal examination questions to you.
You are likely to see the following on some websites. I am getting some copies of them from our website for demonstration.
I never knew jamb could be upgraded until a friend introduced me to Mr Joshua who works at jamb office. If I Passed My JAMB, What is the Next Thing?
If you did pass your UTME, a very big congratulations to you. The list below will guide you on what to do if you passed your UTME.
- Enquire if your school writes Post UTME or just conducts Screening Exercises.
- If your school conducts Post UTME, start the preparation for the Post UTME.
- If your prospective institution conducts screening exercises, get your document readily available.
- Get updated on the news regarding your school. This news should include when the sale of the form would be out and the date of screening exercises.
- Purchase your Post-UTME form of admission form as the case may be from your prospective school.
- Score high in your screening exercise and await admission.
If I Failed JAMB, What is the Next Thing to Do?
If you did not score up to your cut-off mark after JAMB UTME, don’t look for JAMB Upgrading. You can do any of the following:
Do a change of course
Change of course into the same institution is a great way to gain admission into university should your score be lower than the cut-off of your original course.
A less competitive course in a closely related field can assure you admission.
Example: If you applied for medicine and you did not score anything close to the cut-off mark, you can change the course to radiology, physiology, biochemistry, industrial chemistry, or microbiology. See this post on how to do change of institution or course
Do a change of institution.
Some universities are highly sought after in Nigeria. Universities like OAU, UNILAG, LASU, UNILORIN, UNIBEN, and others are competitive. If you did not do well enough to meet up with the benchmark, you can switch to a less competitive University. This will guarantee your admission.
Change the type of tertiary institution.
If you did not meet up with University’s cut-off mark, change to a polytechnic or another alternative. Your admission might be assured. It is possible that you feel bad because you will be heading to a presumed lesser higher institution, which may not sit well with your person. A bird at hand is better than ten thousand in the forest. Do you know that you can cross to a university from any other tertiary institution upon your completion of their programme? Let’s say you graduated from a college of education, you can continue your studies at the 200 Level in any university should you meet up with the requirement. This process is through JAMB Direct Entry.
Prepare for another JAMB
The truth is always bitter but it is what it is, the truth. If you are like me – you want to study the course of your choice at a university, prepare for another JAMB. I scored 304 in my last JAMB after 2 attempts to end up studying economics at Lagos State University. As we speak, I am gradually moving higher in the same field with a passion for education. Let’s say you don’t want to change your passion, retake JAMB!
Take JUPEB after JAMB
JUPEB is Joint University Preliminary Examination Board. This choice allows you to gain admission into 200 Level in any university of your choice here in Nigeria, and some other countries of the world. It is an Advanced Level programme (A’ Level) that is possibly going to guarantee your admission into the sophomore (ie 200 level) without wasting time. You will need to be highly prepared to gain admission. As simple as it is, it is the most technical. The document below will help you understand JUPEB and how we can help. You can also see our special page dedicated to JUPEB here.
In conclusion, life is dual-faceted (ie. it has two faces) – it either one does well or fails. Should either of the two face you in the just concluded examination, thank God and take the next step as highlighted for both cases. Failure is part of the ingredient to success in most cases. Your success tends to be more enjoyable after you know the gravity of failure. I wish you the very best in life and if you have any questions, you are free to as me in the comment section below.
