Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship 2023 at Michigan State University in USA

The African Studies Center announces the Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship. A grant of up to $2,000 to support African international students traveling to Africa for research.
Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe, GCFR PC (November 16, 1904 – May 11, 1996), commonly known as “Zik”, was a Nigerian statesman and political leader who served as the first President of Nigeria since 1963 to 1966. Considered the driving force behind the nation’s independence, he is known as the “Father of Nigerian Nationalism”.
The award recognizes former Nigerian President, Nnamdi Azikiwe, an academic and a politician who led Nigeria as her first civilian president. He invited MSU faculty to him and other Nigerians to build a model land-funded university in eastern Nigeria.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship, you need to fulfill the following:
- Only African undergraduate or graduate students undertaking research in Africa are eligible for this scholarship.
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in an MSU degree program and scholars must return to MSU as registered students within one semester of the awarding date.
- Preference will be given to students with good academic standing and demonstrated financial need.
- Applicants must complete all MSU requirements related to study abroad (IRB training for example)
- Fellows must write and submit a report (3-5 pages) to the Center for African Studies within one month of their return from Africa.

Award Value: One or more scholarships up to $2,000 will be awarded for travel and/or fieldwork in Africa. Funds are intended to cover expenses, students must find additional funds if expenses exceed the amount awarded.
