JAMB Release 2025 UTME Results: Over 1.5 Million Candidates Score Below 200

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing a concerning performance trend among candidates. Out of the 1,955,069 applicants who sat for the examination, more than 1.5 million scored below 200, while only 420,415 candidates achieved scores above the 200 mark.
Performance Breakdown Highlights
According to JAMB’s statistical report, a staggering 75% of candidates scored below 200, with less than 1% attaining scores above 300. This indicates a significant decline in performance compared to previous years, raising concerns about the preparedness of students for the examination.
Additionally, 2,157 candidates are under investigation for alleged examination malpractices, while 71,701 were absent during the test. JAMB also disclosed that some candidates who encountered biometric verification issues will be rescheduled for a supplementary examination.
Underage Candidates Perform Poorly
In a bid to identify exceptionally gifted students, JAMB permitted 40,247 underage candidates to sit for the UTME. However, only 467 (1.16%) of them met the required threshold for exceptional ability. The board noted that their performance in subsequent stages of screening will determine their final eligibility for admission.
Blind and Special Needs Candidates Still Awaiting Results
JAMB stated that results for blind candidates and others in the JEOG (Joint Examination for the Optically Gifted) category are still being processed and will be released soon.
